This is a sound piece I have created in response to Remembering Srebrenica 25th Anniversary. Learning about what happened in Srebrenica was a heavy journey, especially during this uncertain time where we have all been put in a testing ground. Now more than ever, it is important to reflect on the past and learn from the mistakes, "Every Action Matters".
The events that took place in July 1995 projected a vivid image in my head from the very early stage of my research. I recreated the visual journey that Nedzad Avdic (one of the survivors) went through. It became the core of this sound piece.
I am grateful to be given this opportunity to learn about the beautiful and melancholic Bosnian music, from traditional instruments used in folk bands like šargija and flute, to the dynamic new influences in modern day pop and youth culture.
I would like to use this opportunity to let more people become aware of the genocide that happened in Srebrenica. One's homeland turned into a killing ground.
